This chapter deserves a home that feels like you.
The kids are gone. Or almost gone. The house is suddenly, wonderfully yours again.
And you are looking at it thinking: this does not feel like me anymore. It feels like the life I was living ten years ago.
That is exactly where I come in.
I am Julie Sautter. I help people who are ready to stop living in a house that no longer fits and start living in one that genuinely does. Not trendy, not safe, not whatever everyone else is doing. A home with warmth, history, and a real point of view.
Good design should feel inevitable. Like it could not have been any other way.
The best rooms are never just about furniture.
They are about the antique sideboard that has been in the family for generations, finally finding a room worthy of it. The way light moves through a space at four in the afternoon. The piece with a story that makes everything around it better.
I love color. I love mixing patterns and textures in ways that should not work but do. I am always searching for that one unexpected element that pulls a room together and makes it feel like it could not have been any other way.
The goal is never a room that looks decorated. It is a room that feels inevitable.
What my clients say afterward is that it felt easy. That I listened. That they trusted the process because I was honest with them from the beginning. That matters to me as much as how the room looks.
How we can work together.
Full Service Design is my complete, start-to-finish experience. I handle everything: space planning, selections, procurement, contractor coordination, and final installation. You make the decisions that matter. I manage the rest.
Custom Scope is for projects that need a more flexible structure. Longer timelines, phased renovations, complex situations. We figure out the right shape together.
Designer for the Day is a focused, in-person session offered on a limited basis. Six hours, real decisions, a clear path forward. Spots fill quickly when I open availability.
I work with clients throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and the Monterey Bay coast. I also love destination projects and am happy to travel for the right one.
I keep my client roster intimate by design. If the timing feels right, reach out and tell me what you have in mind. Even if you are still figuring it out, that is a perfectly fine place to start.
“A year later, I still walk into my kitchen and can't believe it's mine. Julie didn't just make it look good. She made it work for our actual lives. That's rarer than you'd think.”
— Anita, Atherton
“Julie made our Martha's Vineyard vacation home feel like it was always ours. She designed a welcoming palette and created spaces that felt personal to every member of our family. We loved the result so much, she's already designing our primary residence.” — Gisele G., Hillsborough
Inquire about a Project
If you’re considering working together, I’d love to learn more about your project.
I take on a limited number of projects each year and review all inquiries personally. If it feels like a good fit, I’ll follow up to schedule a conversation.
Please share a bit about what you’re thinking below.
